Cacao superfood powder: why cacao comes first

Ingredients are listed from most to least by weight, and raw cacao powder is at the top of ours. That sets the colour, the smell and the taste: it drinks like an earthy, lightly sweet chocolate with a green note underneath.

Raw cacao vs cocoa

Both come from the beans of the cacao tree. Cocoa powder is usually made from beans roasted at high temperature. Raw cacao powder is processed at lower temperatures, which keeps a sharper, fruitier chocolate flavour. Ours is raw and organic.

Cacao superfood questions

Is it sweet?

Lightly. There is no added sugar. Thaumatin, a sweet protein from the katemfe fruit, takes the edge off the cacao and the greens.

Can I bake with it?

You can stir it through oats or yoghurt, or fold it into a no-bake slice or bliss balls. We have not tested it in baking at high heat.

Is it hot chocolate?

No. It drinks best cold, in milk, water or a smoothie. Stir it into a warm (not boiling) milk if you prefer.
